Incidence and prevalence of occupational disease cases by gender and diagnosis

DEFINITIONS

Incidence of occupational diseases in the Register- the number of occupational diseases newly diagnosed in a particular year (diagnoses of occupational diseases are determined according to the ICD-10 classification). The number of occupational diseases may differ from the number of patients diagnosed with an occupational disease, as several diagnoses of occupational diseases can be registered for each patient.

Incidence of occupational diseases per 100,000 population - number of occupational diseases newly diagnosed in a particular year, calculated on the average population of Latvia in a given year and multiplied by 100,000.

Prevalence of Occupational Diseases in the Register - number of Occupational Diseases registered in the Register at the end of a particular year. The number of occupational diseases may differ from the number of patients diagnosed with an occupational disease, as several diagnoses of occupational diseases can be registered for each patient.

Prevalence of Occupational Diseases in the Register per 100,000 population - number of Occupational Diseases registered in the Register at the end of a particular year, divided by population of Latvia at the end of the year and multiplied by 100,000.

Diagnosis, ICD-10 code - diagnosis by International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th Revision.

Number of occupational diseases by economic activity - major group of the main economic activity of the local unit of the enterprise where the victim worked according to Statistical classification of economic activities in the European Community, NACE Rev. 2

Number of occupational diseases by occupation - the victim's occupation in the period of harmful exposure according to International Standard Classification of Occupations, version 2008 (ISCO-08), grouped in 10 major groups.

Number of causal agents of occupational diseases by major groups - causal agent according to hygienic characterisation of a workplace and Cabinet Regulation No. 908 “Procedures for Investigation and Registration of Occupational Diseases”, Adopted 6 November 2006.
