Avoidable mortality is partly or compleatly potentialy avoidable death cases. There are treatable and preventable deaths.
Preventable mortality: Causes of death that can be mainly avoided through effective public health and primary prevention interventions (i.e. before the onset of diseases/injuries, to reduce incidence).
Treatable (or amenable) mortality: Causes of death that can be mainly avoided through timely and effective health care interventions, including secondary prevention and treatment (i.e. after the onset of diseases, to reduce case-fatality).
Avoidable mortality are calculated based on data from Register of Causes of Death about persons died in age 0 - 74.
Average number of inhabitants: Central Statistical Bureau.
Joint methodology of OECD/Eurostat (Avoidable mortality: OECD/Eurostat lists of preventable and treatable causes of death (January 2022 version)), updated January 2022, included Covid-19 in list of preventable death causes.
Published preventable mortality rates in 2020-2021 include death due to the Covid-19.
Avoidable mortality calculated among persons under age 75. Rates per 100000 based on average number of inhabitants (relevant age, gender) at defined time period.
