Calculating immunisation coverage in children according to the Latvian vaccination schedule

Immunisation coverage (%) – the proportion of individuals who have received a specific vaccine.

Target group population – the number of children at the age specified for receiving a particular vaccine according to the national schedule.

Annex 3 “ Immunisation Report and Vaccine Order Form” of Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 330 of 26 September 2000 “ Vaccination Regulations” - used until 31 December 2023.

Vaccination records in the Unified Electronic Health Sector Information System (e-health) – from 1 January 2024 onwards.

Population data - Central Statistical Bureau Republic of Latvia.

The Centre for Disease Prevention and Control analyses immunisation coverage among children based on the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations (World Health Organization. Assessing and Improving the Accuracy of Target Population Estimates for Immunization Coverage. Working Draft. 2015) for calculating immunisation coverage. Immunisation coverage are calculated using a single denominator source - population statistics from the Central Statistical Bureau Republic of Latvia.

The Centre for Disease Prevention and Control applies the administrative method for calculating immunisation indicators.

Numerator.

• For the calculation of immunisation coverage until the end of 2023, compiled monthly data from vaccionation providers were used, as reported in accordance with Annex 3 “Form of the Report on Immunisation of Inhabitants and of the Order of Vaccines” of Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 330 “Vaccination Regulations” of 26 September 2000 (hereinafter – the Cabinet Regulations).
• From 2025 onwards data from the Unified Electronic Health Sector Information System (e-health) are used for the calculation of immunisation coverage for children.

Denominator. Population data as of the beginning of the year are obtained from the Central Statistical Bureau Republic of Latvia databases.

Calculation of immunisation coverage = total number of vaccinated children / total number of children in the target group *100
