DEFINITIONS

Region – a territorial division in regions according to the Regulation (EC) No 1059/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 May 2003 on the establishment of a common classification of territorial units for statistics (NUTS). NUTS classification is a hierarchical system for dividing up the economic territory of the EU for the purpose of the collection, development and harmonisation of EU regional statistics; socio-economic analyses of the regions (NUTS 1: major socio-economic regions, NUTS 2: basic regions for the application of regional policies, NUTS 3: as small regions for specific diagnoses); framing of EU regional policies. Total emergency care visits – all cases of emergency care visits, including those cases when emergency care was provided for other patients or victims at the place of event.

Emergency care visits performed in time – the emergency care team has reached the place of the event within 15 minutes, if the event took place in the city, or within 25 minutes, if the event took place in the rural area.
